Max Brenner's Chocolate Bar

After our satisfying dinner at Huat Kee, we rounded things up by going to Max Brenners @ Esplanade for fondue. My gf’s sister had wanted to try the Chocolate Soufflé, but there weren’t any left, so we settled for 2 fondue sets to share. Fondues, as you know, are as exciting as the dip items that are served, which in this case, wasn’t really anything out of the blue.

Each fondue set came with a small saucer of melted White Chocolate, melted Milk Chocolate and melted Dark Chocolate served over a small flame to heat the liquid chocolate up. Dip items consisted of Marshmallows, Strawberries, cubes of bread and Bananas. The Dark Chocolate was nice and thick without being too sweet. The Milk Chocolate was acceptable but a little too milky for my taste. The White Chocolate was way to sweet for my taste and tasted a little creamy. The unanimous winner for the night was the Dark Chocolate, with everyone voting in favour of it.

At $20+++ for 1 fondue set (serves 2), I feel it’s quite a rip off. But I’m a sucker for chocolate, so I don’t see an end to me visiting such places, or Max Brenner for that matter – if they buck up on their slow service that is.

Always been curious if they're good, but never dropped by. Ditto for V Tea Room.

It was between V Tea Room and Max Brenners. But the chocolate won. From what I gather, V Tea Room's liquer cakes seem pretty expensive.

Yeah, I keep hearing about this Bailey's cake. I've seen their tea cake sizes. Just a little bigger than Old Chang Kee's curry puffs. Less fat. And it's about $15 apiece if my memory doesn't fail me. The setup looks Victorian and very tai tai.

Somehow $15 a cake seems madly expensive. But perhaps we can give it a try one day, maybe after Banoo? :p

Hi, u have mentioned that a set of fondue cost around $20+++ right? the +++ is it inclusive of gst and service charge? Or otherwise it cost more? so how much actually do a set of fondue at max brenner's cost up to? (can give me the exact amount)

Thanks a lot (:

Oops sorry this came one month too late. The +++ should be ++ now. I'm very sure they have increased their prices since my last visit. The ++ is 10% service charge and 7% GST.

i had some issue with the fondue
the small one comes with 3 sauce and 1 plate of fruits and another plate of bread and marshmelow..
large one had an extrsa plate of fruits...BUT IT"S $10 more EX!!!
UNREASONABLE...cheating my money
they charge an extra plate of fruits for $5...
they must have failed their maths
