Housed under the same coffeeshop as Hup Seng Duck Rice, Rong Chen Bak Kut Teh has garnered its own following in its 25 years of operation. Word has it that the owner of this stall plays the role of a mentor to other successful Bak Kut Teh stalls(I shall not mention stall names).
Bak Kut Teh
The Bak Kut Teh was disappointing right from the start. The soup was way too salty and the meat tasted like it had been overcooked - it was tough. The soup could also do with more peppercorns as it was hardly peppery, one of the distinctive characteristics of Teochew Bak Kut Teh. Portions were also small for the price and the accompanying Cai buaer(salted vegetable ends I think) were gross. The fritters were also tasteless and soggy. The above cost me a whopping $7.50. Good grief!
