The crave for burgers kicked in after a few days in Shanghai and after trawling through countless websites, I settled for New York Style Steak & Burger, which apparently garnered the most consistent ratings and good comments.

The Exterior & Interior

Hidden amidst the artsy Tian Zi Fang (田子坊), this small eatery proved quite challenging to find as I took about 20 minutes with the help of google maps, wandering up and down the various alleys before finally zeroing in on it (either that or I'm a complete navigation idiot).

The place isn't big but spots 3 levels of dining space. Sitting on the ground floor allows you a clear view of the open concept kitchen as well as access to faster service.

Mushroom Swiss

My order of the Mushroom Swiss (65 CNY or ~ 13 SGD) was clearly quite a size, with tons of mushroom and swiss cheese coupled with a huge medium done, hand chopped patty (evident from the uneven bits). However the inherent bovine taste was a little lacking in my humble opinion. Also, the buns came across as insipid and a little limp, especially the one at the bottom. Can't say this was anywhere near the best burger that I've ever had but at least it was decent and fixed my craving for a bit.

Overall the cafe is pretty nice and chill out especially during weekday afternoons and service is decent. Food quality is alright and prices are reasonable. But I might just stick to eating Carl's Junior the next time round, seeing that Carl's is just opposite my hotel whereas 田子坊 is a couple of subway stops down.

Final Verdict:
Ambience: 7/10
Service: 6.5/10
Food: 6.5/10
Value for money: 7/10
Overall: 6.75/10
